Baku, September 12, 2025 — The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov held a meeting with Marco Arcelli, Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, to review ongoing and prospective cooperation in the renewable energy sector.
During the meeting, the parties commended ACWA Power’s expanding presence in Azerbaijan through new projects aligned with the country’s green energy agenda. Discussions focused on the development of industrial-scale onshore and offshore wind energy production and transmission initiatives.
The sides also reviewed progress on the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant, underscoring the importance of its timely commissioning at full capacity. In addition, they exchanged views on the implementation of a 200 MW wind power project within the framework of grid studies designed to integrate additional green energy capacities into the national system for both domestic consumption and export.
Talks further explored the potential for electricity supply from Nakhchivan to Türkiye, including the prospects of launching a wind energy project with ACWA Power in the region. Cooperation in offshore energy production was also highlighted as a priority area.
The meeting additionally addressed the Black Sea submarine cable project and related land interconnectors linking Azerbaijan with Europe via Georgia and Türkiye. It was emphasized that interregional connections are vital not only for electricity transmission but also for data transfer, with the fiber-optic component being developed in parallel to the power transmission line.
