Rubio Confirms Progress in Talks on Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Rubio

Washington, October 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that discussions regarding former President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza plan are currently underway, amid continuing hostilities between Israel and Hamas.

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Rubio stated that although both Israel and Hamas have accepted parts of Trump’s proposal, the situation on the ground remains tense. “We will know very quickly whether Hamas is serious or not by how these technical talks go in terms of the logistics,” he said, referring to ongoing negotiations concerning the release of hostages from Gaza.

Rubio emphasized the urgency of securing the hostages’ release, saying he wants them to be returned “as soon as possible” and hopes the logistical details can be finalized “very quickly.”

The Secretary of State also acknowledged that while Hamas has agreed in principle to elements of the post-war framework outlined in Trump’s plan, significant challenges remain. “The second phase of the hostage deal — the disarmament and demobilization — that’s not going to be easy. That’s going to be hard,” Rubio added, underscoring the complexity of achieving a sustainable resolution to the Gaza conflict.
