Bucharest, October 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: The first direct railway connection between Kyiv and Bucharest was inaugurated on Friday, marking a milestone in regional cooperation and connectivity among Ukraine, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova.
Named “Friendship”, the new train route links Ukraine to Romania through Moldova, serving as a powerful symbol of unity and a collective step toward restoring peace and normalcy in the region.
“This train represents concrete progress toward the normality we aspire to and continue to work for — together with Andrii Sybiha and Mihai Popșoi,” a Romanian official said at the inauguration ceremony.
The direct link is hailed as a significant achievement for the trilateral partnership between the three neighboring countries. It is expected to enhance mobility and connectivity for citizens across the region, particularly at a time when air links with Kyiv remain suspended due to Russia’s ongoing aggression, and road routes face numerous restrictions and safety concerns.
Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu expressed appreciation to the railway workers from Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine whose dedication made the project possible.
“During my visit to Kyiv, I had the opportunity to understand the crucial role of Ukrzaliznytsia, which, despite the hardships of war, continues to maintain an essential service that keeps the country connected,” Minister Țoiu said.
Officials underscored that the “Friendship” train not only facilitates practical transport links but also reflects the three countries’ shared commitment to regional stability, resilience, and deeper integration.
The Kyiv–Bucharest “Friendship” train stands as both a practical and symbolic initiative, demonstrating the enduring cooperation between Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova in advancing peace, connectivity, and mutual development.
