French Court Lifts Travel Restrictions on Telegram Founder Pavel Durov

Telegram

ParisNovember 14, 2025 – The Europe Today: Telegram founder Pavel Durov is once again free to travel after French courts lifted the judicial supervision measures that had barred him from leaving the country without authorization, according to an official familiar with the proceedings, media reports said.

Durov was arrested in France in August 2024 and charged with several organized crime offenses. Prosecutors allege that Durov and his Telegram messaging platform failed to cooperate with authorities in efforts to combat illegal online content, including child sexual abuse material.

After his late-night arrest at Le Bourget airport, Durov was placed under strict judicial supervision, including a ban on leaving French territory. These restrictions were gradually eased over time and fully lifted in November.

Throughout the investigation, Durov has been questioned three times, most recently at the end of July. His legal team has vigorously challenged the proceedings, stating they “strongly contest the legality of the investigation into our client and the numerous investigative actions carried out in violation of domestic and European law.”

Since his arrest, Durov has increasingly used social media to denounce France’s political and judicial institutions.

Media reported that the Paris public prosecutor’s office did not respond to requests for comment on the latest development, nor did Durov’s lawyers — Christophe Ingrain, Guillaume Martine, Robin Binsard and David-Olivier Kaminski.
