Rabat, December 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Spain and Morocco have reaffirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation, vowing to further strengthen ties across political, economic, and strategic sectors. The renewed commitment was announced during the Spain-Morocco Business Meeting held in Madrid on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said both countries have a “unique window of opportunity to transform their partnership into a true accelerator of Africa-Europe ties,” with Spain and Morocco serving as a “natural pivot” between the two continents.
Highlighting Spain’s leadership in renewable energy and industrial capacity, Akhannouch described Morocco as both an African hub and an export gateway to Europe. He emphasized that under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has significantly expanded its engagement on the continent, becoming the leading African investor in Africa.
Akhannouch noted that Morocco can act as a strategic bridge for Spanish companies in partner countries with which Rabat maintains strong political, diplomatic, and commercial links. He added that both countries have the potential to jointly build integrated energy corridors and participate in co-investment projects across West Africa, capitalizing on their complementary networks, financing capabilities, and expertise.
Antoine Garamendi, President of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations, echoed these sentiments. He highlighted the complementarity of the Spanish and Moroccan economies, stating that the “two countries must join efforts to become a shared strategic gateway to Africa and Latin America.” Garamendi praised the strength of bilateral ties, emphasizing robust commercial cooperation and joint efforts to address global challenges and promote economic growth.
The business meeting was held on the eve of the 13th High-Level Meeting between Spain and Morocco, which will be co-chaired by Akhannouch and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The high-level session aims to deepen economic cooperation and enable Spanish companies to explore the growing trade and investment opportunities within Morocco.
