Paris, January 11, 2024, The Europe Today: Former French national team basketball player, Emilie Gomis, has been relieved of her role as an Olympics ambassador by Paris 2024 organizers due to a controversy surrounding a social media post related to the Gaza war.
On October 9, Gomis shared an Instagram story depicting maps of France gradually covered by the flag of Israel, along with a question about potential actions in such a situation, just two days after Hamas’ unexpected attack on Israel. Criticism arose, accusing her of antisemitism and supporting the attack, allegations vehemently denied by Gomis.
In response, Paris 2024 stated that the Board of Directors and the General Assembly acknowledged Gomis’ condemnation of the October 7 attacks in Israel, as well as her disapproval of all forms of anti-Semitism and discrimination, contrary to her values. Gomis expressed regret and offered her apologies for the controversial post.
