Beijing, China – March 06, 2024, The Europe Today: President Xi Jinping emphasized the crucial role of Chinese political advisors in building broad consensus to contribute to Chinese modernization. During his participation in a joint group meeting at the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), President Xi urged advisors from diverse backgrounds to conduct in-depth research and actively provide suggestions aligned with the strategic tasks outlined by the 20th CPC National Congress.
The joint group meeting, attended by political advisors from various political parties, organizations, ethnic groups, sectors, and walks of life, featured discussions on topics ranging from cross-Strait cooperation to internet core technologies and environmental protection. President Xi extended festive greetings and best wishes to the women of all ethnic groups and walks of life in anticipation of International Women’s Day on March 8.
Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and Cai Qi, director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, both members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, joined the discussion.
In his speech, President Xi acknowledged the contributions of political advisors to achieving major economic and social development goals in 2023. On the Taiwan issue, he urged unity against “Taiwan independence” and emphasized the need for stronger opposition and support for national reunification, calling for enhanced cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
President Xi also called on the science and technology sector to strengthen research efforts, achieve breakthroughs in core technologies, and drive new quality productive forces. Additionally, he urged advisors from the environment and resources sector to contribute to ecological protection and sustainable high-quality development.
As 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the CPPCC’s establishment, President Xi stressed the importance of promoting institutional development within the CPPCC. He urged political advisors to enhance their capabilities to further advance the work of the CPPCC and multi-party cooperation, demonstrating a commitment to the organization’s ongoing evolution and effectiveness.
