Xi Jinping Meets with Ma Ying-jeou in Beijing, Emphasizing Cross-Strait Relations

Beijing, April 10, 2024, The Europe Today: In a significant meeting in Beijing, Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held discussions with Ma Ying-jeou, underscoring the importance of cross-Strait relations and the shared identity of compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Despite differences in systems, Xi reaffirmed that both sides belong to one China, emphasizing that external interference cannot impede the historical trend toward national reunification.

Addressing the youth as the future of the nation, Xi encouraged them to embrace their identity as Chinese people and work collectively for the enduring prosperity of the Chinese nation, urging them to contribute to the nation’s renewed greatness.

Xi highlighted the commonalities in bloodline, culture, history, responsibility, and aspirations between people on both sides of the Strait, stressing the importance of viewing the cross-Strait situation from the perspective of the overall interests and long-term development of the Chinese nation.

In his remarks, Ma Ying-jeou emphasized the significance of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing “Taiwan independence” as crucial foundations for peaceful cross-Strait relations. He echoed Xi’s sentiment that both sides of the Strait belong to the same Chinese nation, advocating for deeper exchanges, cultural cooperation, and collective efforts toward the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
