Beijing, April 10, 2024, The Europe Today: In a significant meeting in Beijing, Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held discussions with Ma Ying-jeou, underscoring the importance of cross-Strait relations and the shared identity of compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Xi highlighted the commonalities in bloodline, culture, history, responsibility, and aspirations between people on both sides of the Strait, stressing the importance of viewing the cross-Strait situation from the perspective of the overall interests and long-term development of the Chinese nation.
In his remarks, Ma Ying-jeou emphasized the significance of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing “Taiwan independence” as crucial foundations for peaceful cross-Strait relations.
