Turkmen Leader Proposes “Islamic Initiative for Peace, Mutual Understanding and Trust” at Kazan Meeting

Kazan, May 17, 2024, The Europe Today: Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen people, has proposed the development of an “Islamic Initiative for Peace, Mutual Understanding and Trust.” The proposal was made during his speech at a meeting of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – Islamic World” held in Kazan, according to reports from TDH.

This initiative is viewed by Ashgabat as a comprehensive approach rooted in Islamic principles of peace, goodness, and justice, aimed at all peoples globally, as emphasized by Berdimuhamedov, head of the highest representative body of people’s power in Turkmenistan.

Chairman Berdimuhamedov highlighted the significant role that Islamic countries can play in fostering peace and building trust. He urged for maximum support in de-escalating conflicts, transitioning disputes into negotiations, and cultivating a culture of consensus in international relations.

The Turkmen leader suggested that the “Islamic Initiative” be discussed with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other international bodies. Following agreement, he proposed presenting it as an official document at a future session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Berdimuhamedov also noted that the initiative would be open for all states to join. He expressed confidence that the global community would positively respond to this initiative, marking a united effort by the Islamic Ummah to influence world processes and achieve harmony.

The proposal represents a significant step in Turkmenistan’s diplomatic efforts to contribute to global peace and understanding through Islamic principles and cooperation.
