Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang Calls for Full Support to Ensure Smooth and Fair National College Entrance Examination

Beijing, June 03, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has called for comprehensive efforts to support the upcoming 2024 national college entrance examination, also known as Gaokao, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the exam is conducted smoothly and fairly.

Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspected the preparatory work for the exam on Sunday. Gaokao, a crucial event in China’s education system, typically commences on June 7 each year.

During his visit to a middle school exam site in Beijing, Ding reviewed the exam room arrangements, waiting-for-exam management, and related services. He also engaged in discussions with staff members working in the monitoring, broadcasting, and exam rooms, expressing appreciation for their dedication. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Ding extended sincere greetings and gratitude to all individuals involved in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exam.

Acknowledging the record high number of students registered for this year’s Gaokao, Ding emphasized the need for meticulous services, including traffic control, heatstroke prevention, noise reduction, and ensuring hygiene in accommodation facilities. These measures aim to create a conducive and comfortable environment for the examinees.

At the Beijing Education Examinations Authority, Ding highlighted that fairness and safety are the lifelines of Gaokao. He called for strict confidentiality management and a robust crackdown on exam fraud to maintain the integrity of the examination process.

According to data from the Ministry of Education, 13.42 million students have registered for the 2024 national college entrance examination, marking an increase of 510,000 students from the previous year. Gaokao is widely regarded as the most important examination in China, determining the future academic and career paths of millions of students.
