Beijing, June 17, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the alumni association of the Huangpu Military Academy, celebrating the centennial of the academy and the 40th anniversary of the alumni association.
On behalf of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended warm congratulations to the alumni association and sincere greetings to alumni and their relatives worldwide.
In his message, Xi highlighted the historical significance of the Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy, which was established during the initial cooperation between the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) and the CPC. The academy played a pivotal role in cultivating military officers for the Chinese revolution.
The alumni association, a CPC-led patriotic organization, has significantly contributed to the development of the Party and the country, facilitating exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, opposing separatism, and promoting national reunification, Xi noted.
Xi urged the association to continue the academy’s patriotic and revolutionary traditions, firmly oppose separatism, and promote national reunification. He called on alumni and their families to actively participate in Chinese modernization and contribute to building a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation.
The Huangpu Military Academy was founded in Guangzhou in June 1924. A symposium commemorating the academy’s centennial and the alumni association’s 40th anniversary was held in Beijing on Monday, where Xi’s message was read.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, attended the symposium and delivered a speech.
Wang praised the patriotic and revolutionary history of Huangpu’s alumni and their families, recognizing them as a vital force in advancing national reunification and rejuvenation. He encouraged the group to remain steadfast in promoting national reunification, engaging in cross-Strait cooperation, and fostering youth exchanges across the Strait.
Wang also emphasized the need to resolutely oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and external interference, contributing to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
