China International Import Expo 2024 Kicks Off in Shanghai

Shanghai, November 5, 2024 – The Europe Today: The seventh edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s first national-level exposition dedicated to imports, officially commenced on Tuesday in Shanghai. The event, which runs from November 5 to 10, aims to enhance international trade and promote global cooperation.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote address during the opening ceremony, emphasizing China’s commitment to expanding its market and further opening its economy. “China has continued to walk the talk in expanding opening up,” Li stated, noting that the country’s overall tariff level has been reduced to 7.3 percent, surpassing its target of 9.8 percent.

In his remarks, Premier Li highlighted the successful implementation of all opening-up measures announced at previous CIIEs, including the elimination of all items in the manufacturing industry on the national negative list for foreign investment. This move is part of China’s broader strategy to enhance foreign investment and economic collaboration.

Li expressed China’s readiness to further open its vast market, signaling continued market access expansion across various sectors, including telecommunications, the internet, education, culture, and healthcare. “The sound fundamentals of the Chinese economy remain unchanged, and the country is capable of promoting sound and steady economic growth,” he affirmed, expressing confidence in achieving this year’s economic and social development goals.

This year’s CIIE has attracted approximately 3,500 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions, setting a new record with 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders participating in the event. Attendees will witness the unveiling of more than 400 new products, technologies, and services, showcasing a robust commitment from global companies to the Chinese market amidst ongoing global economic challenges.

Experts believe the expo reflects strong international confidence in China’s market potential and its commitment to fostering economic development and cooperation. The CIIE serves as a platform for businesses to explore opportunities and strengthen partnerships in the evolving global trade landscape.
