President Ilham Aliyev Meets European Council President Charles Michel

Baku, November 11, 2024 — The Europe Today: On Monday, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel. During the meeting, Michel extended his congratulations to Azerbaijan for hosting the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and wished the country success in the event.

Michel expressed optimism that the conference would yield significant decisions on addressing climate change, a pressing issue that remains a top priority for the European Union. He underscored the EU’s commitment to tackling climate change through international cooperation and pivotal actions at global events like COP29.

The leaders also discussed the future prospects for strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union. President Aliyev took the opportunity to acknowledge President Michel’s pivotal role in facilitating negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He highlighted Michel’s efforts in shaping the structure and agenda of the ongoing peace talks, noting that his mediation had been instrumental in advancing the negotiation process and addressing key issues between the two countries.

The meeting emphasized the growing collaboration between Azerbaijan and the European Union, with a focus on fostering deeper political and economic ties while addressing global challenges like climate change and regional stability.
