Chinese President Xi Jinping and Wife Extend New Year Wishes to U.S. Teachers and Students

Beijing, January 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, sent a heartfelt New Year card on Wednesday in response to representatives of middle school teachers and students from the U.S. State of Washington. The card, which conveyed their warm wishes for the coming year, also highlighted the significance of 2025 as the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

In the message, President Xi and Peng reflected on the shared history between China and the United States during the Second World War, emphasizing how both nations fought together for peace and justice. They noted that the enduring friendship between the two peoples, forged in the trials of war, continues to grow stronger over time.

The couple expressed hope that the youth in both countries will continue to engage in China’s initiative to invite 50,000 young Americans for exchange and study programs over a five-year period. This initiative, they stated, aims to strengthen exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, carry forward traditional friendship, and contribute to the development of China-U.S. relations and world peace.

The New Year card was sent in reply to a gesture from the U.S.-China Youth and Student Exchange Association, along with representatives from Lincoln High School and Stadium High School, who had previously visited China under the initiative. More than 100 teachers and students participated in signing the card, which included New Year greetings written in Chinese, wishing for everlasting friendship between the two nations.

This exchange underscores the continued commitment to fostering stronger ties between the youth of China and the United States, reinforcing both educational and cultural diplomacy.
