Azerbaijan, World Bank Discuss Renewable Energy Cooperation

Baku, January 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank to discuss expanding electricity production through renewable energy sources.

During the meeting, Akhundov highlighted Azerbaijan’s energy potential, emphasizing the country’s strategic initiatives to enhance the share of renewables in its energy mix. He underscored the government’s commitment to sustainable energy development and the role of regulatory frameworks in facilitating investment in the sector.

Roger Coma Cunill, Energy Specialist at the World Bank Group, commended Azerbaijan’s energy production potential and reaffirmed the bank’s interest in supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

The discussions also addressed technical assistance, investment opportunities, and long-term cooperation aimed at strengthening Azerbaijan’s energy sector. Both parties explored avenues for further collaboration to enhance efficiency and sustainability in electricity generation.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to leveraging renewable energy to ensure energy security and environmental sustainability in Azerbaijan.
