Ashgabat, February 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: On Monday, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and national leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a phone conversation with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. During their discussion, Berdimuhamedov extended a formal invitation to Pezeshkian to attend an international forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, scheduled for December 12, 2025, in Ashgabat.
Berdimuhamedov emphasized the significance of the forum, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. He stated that the Iranian President’s participation would greatly enhance the success of the event. A formal invitation will be sent to the Iranian side shortly, according to official reports from Turkmenistan.
Both leaders took the opportunity to reflect on the strong and enduring Turkmen-Iranian relations, founded on mutual respect and good neighborliness. In a gesture of goodwill, Berdimuhamedov also congratulated Pezeshkian on Iran’s Revolution Day, extending his heartfelt wishes for the prosperity and well-being of the Iranian people. President Pezeshkian expressed his appreciation for the warm greetings and emphasized the importance of further strengthening the partnership between their two nations.
The conversation also included discussions on expanding economic cooperation. Berdimuhamedov proposed convening the next meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian joint intergovernmental commission, with a focus on increasing collaboration in energy, transport, and industry. Both sides expressed a mutual commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in these areas.
As the call concluded, both leaders reaffirmed their shared desire to continue developing the Turkmen-Iranian relationship, working together to achieve common goals and mutual interests.
