Trump Criticizes Zelenskyy, Calls Him a ‘Dictator Without Elections’

Washington, February 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, labeling him a “dictator without elections” and accusing him of mismanaging the war with Russia.

In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump warned that Zelenskyy must “move fast or he is not going to have a country left.” The president also claimed that his administration is successfully negotiating an end to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, stating that “Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the ‘gravy train’ going.”

“I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and millions have unnecessarily died – and so it continues,” Trump wrote.

Trump further criticized the financial aid provided to Ukraine, asserting that the United States has spent $200 billion more than Europe and received no returns. He questioned why President Joe Biden had not demanded financial “equalization,” given that the war is of greater strategic importance to Europe.

“Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand equalization, in that this war is far more important to Europe than it is to us — we have a big, beautiful ocean as separation. On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is ‘missing,'” Trump stated.

The president also ridiculed Zelenskyy’s background as a comedian, suggesting that he manipulated the U.S. into spending $350 billion on a war that “couldn’t be won and never had to start.” Additionally, he alleged that Zelenskyy is “very low” in Ukrainian polls and refused to hold elections.

Zelenskyy responded to Trump’s remarks, rejecting the accusations and suggesting that the former U.S. president was being influenced by Russian disinformation. “As we are talking about 4 percent, we have seen this disinformation, we understand it’s coming from Russia,” Zelenskyy said during a televised news conference.

“President Trump… unfortunately lives in this disinformation space,” he added. “Around Trump, there is a disinformation bubble.”

Zelenskyy’s comments come amid escalating political debates over U.S. support for Ukraine. According to a Kyiv-based pollster, Zelenskyy’s trust rating currently stands at 57 percent. The Ukrainian president dismissed any suggestions of his potential replacement, asserting that such efforts “would not work.”

The war in Ukraine began three years ago when Russia launched a full-scale invasion, deploying tens of thousands of troops into Ukrainian territory. The conflict has since resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life, with international efforts to broker peace facing numerous obstacles.
