Tokyo, April 15, 2025 — The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by Tsukuba University, one of Japan’s most prestigious higher education institutions, Turkmenistan’s official media reported on Tuesday.
The award ceremony took place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, where President Berdimuhamedov met with Professor Kyosuke Nagata, President of Tsukuba University. The occasion marked a significant milestone in the growing educational and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and Japan.
In his remarks during the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov underscored Turkmenistan’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Japan, with particular emphasis on the field of education. He highlighted the vital role of academic exchanges and direct partnerships between higher education institutions in both countries as key drivers of mutual development.
The Turkmen leader reaffirmed his dedication to advancing joint initiatives aimed at deepening Turkmen-Japanese collaboration in the scientific and humanitarian spheres.
Currently, Tsukuba University maintains cooperation agreements with two of Turkmenistan’s leading universities — the Dovletmammet Azadi Institute of World Languages and the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University — further solidifying the educational bridge between the two nations.
