Lachin, May 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev today attended the official inauguration of the Lachin Electric Network Digital Control Center, a cutting-edge facility aimed at significantly enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure and service reliability.
Vugar Ahmadov, Chairman of “Azerishig” Open Joint-Stock Company, briefed the head of state on the strategic advancements and technical progress achieved at the new center.
The facility has been developed to ensure uninterrupted and stable electricity supply across the city of Lachin, including to newly built residential complexes and a wide array of industrial, social, agricultural, and tourism facilities currently under development. The center leverages innovative digital technologies to monitor, manage, and safeguard the operations of the electrical network.
Equipped with two 1600 kVA power transformers and advanced 35 kV and 0.4 kV indoor distribution units, the facility represents a major leap forward in Azerbaijan’s utility infrastructure. To power the facility, dual-circuit power transmission lines stretching 4.8 kilometers have been laid from the “Lachin” substation. The state-of-the-art equipment ensures precise, centralized monitoring and supports highly efficient network operations. This helps to reduce energy losses during transmission and lowers operational costs.
The Digital Control Center is also equipped with an online notification system that provides advance warnings to consumers regarding planned power outages. Furthermore, with the integration of renewable energy sources managed automatically through the system, electricity supply interruptions are virtually eliminated.
The system supports multifunctional substation operations based on real-time electricity input and output data and enables full coordination between interconnected equipment and devices. Operations are dynamically adjusted to meet the evolving requirements of the distribution network.
Importantly, the control and monitoring systems are fully remote-operated, eliminating the need for permanent on-site personnel. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens the system’s resilience in terms of information and technical security. Additionally, the infrastructure fully supports the integration of “green energy” sources, in line with Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable energy development.
The inauguration of this advanced facility underscores the country’s broader efforts to modernize utility services, promote digital transformation, and ensure the efficient use of energy resources in territories liberated from occupation.
