Washington, November 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Republican lawmakers are preparing legislation aimed at imposing sweeping sanctions on any country conducting business with Russia, with the possibility of expanding the measures to include Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the proposed legislation reflects his own earlier recommendations regarding stricter penalties. “As you know, I suggested it, so any country that does business with Russia will be very severely sanctioned,” he stated.
He further noted that Republicans may consider adding Iran to the list of targets under the new sanctions framework, saying, “They may add Iran to that.”
The development comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and continued debate in Washington over U.S. foreign policy priorities and approaches to Russia and Iran.
