Baku, December 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation on December 11 with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, the country’s highest representative body.
President Aliyev extended his congratulations to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, wishing continued success and prosperity to the brotherly nation.
Noting that December 12 marks the Day of Remembrance of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan, President Aliyev said he would be unable to attend the events dedicated to Turkmenistan’s neutrality anniversary. He added that the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan would represent the country at the celebrations.
The Azerbaijani head of state expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality shown during the recent visit of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, to Turkmenistan. He described the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship as a further demonstration of the close cooperation between the two countries.
President Aliyev also thanked Turkmenistan for its unequivocal and full support for Azerbaijan’s accession as a full-fledged participant in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. He asked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to convey his greetings and congratulations on the neutrality anniversary to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his appreciation for the phone call and the warm congratulations. He offered his condolences on the anniversary of the passing of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, emphasizing his profound respect for Heydar Aliyev’s memory and his significant role in shaping Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan relations.
He also welcomed the recent visit of Leyla Aliyeva and her meeting with Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice-President for Medical Activities of the Charitable Foundation, stressing the importance of the signed cooperation document.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated Azerbaijan on becoming a full-fledged participant in the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian heads of state, reaffirming Turkmenistan’s consistent support for this development.
During the phone call, the two sides also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and discussed prospects for future interaction.
