Baku, April 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations with the Czech Republic following high-level talks with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš during his official visit.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, President Aliyev expressed appreciation for the Czech premier’s visit and the productive discussions held in Gabala, noting the significance of the trip as Babiš’s first official visit outside the European Union.
“It is a double privilege that this was your first official visit outside the EU. Our political relations are strong, and today’s exchanges once again confirmed our shared commitment to further deepening Azerbaijan–Czechia ties,” the Azerbaijani leader stated.
President Aliyev emphasised that while bilateral trade turnover has already reached a solid level, both sides recognise considerable potential to further structure and diversify economic cooperation.
He noted that the Business Forum held during the visit, which brought together representatives from both countries’ business communities, marked an important step toward enhancing economic engagement.
The two sides also agreed to elevate the status of the intergovernmental economic commission, a move expected to improve coordination in key sectors, particularly energy and industry.
Highlighting defence collaboration, President Aliyev said Azerbaijan values its cooperation with the Czech Republic in the defence industry and sees promising prospects for further expansion in this area.
The Azerbaijani head of state also welcomed an invitation from Prime Minister Babiš to visit the Czech Republic, expressing gratitude for the continued friendship and partnership between the two nations.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen strategic ties and expand cooperation across political, economic, and defence domains.
