Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad, May 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the decision by Donald Trump to temporarily halt “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a positive response to requests made by Pakistan and friendly nations.

In an official statement, the Prime Minister described the timely announcement as encouraging and expressed appreciation for President Trump’s “bold leadership.” He noted that the move would contribute to easing tensions and promoting stability in the region.

Shehbaz Sharif also praised the efforts of Mohammed bin Salman, stating that the role played by Saudi Arabia—particularly its leadership—was commendable in advancing peace and reconciliation.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to reducing regional tensions and supports resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. He described the development as a constructive step toward achieving lasting peace and stability both in the region and globally.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the ongoing progress would pave the way for a durable peace agreement.

The statement follows an earlier announcement by President Trump confirming the temporary suspension of “Project Freedom,” aimed at facilitating the release of vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. He had indicated that the decision was made after reaching a consensus with Iran, adding that significant progress had been achieved toward a comprehensive agreement with Tehran.
