Islamabad, June 23, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic cooperation, and promoting regional peace and stability during high-level talks between the two countries’ leadership.
According to an official statement, President Asif Ali Zardari met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian during the latter’s visit to Islamabad. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on bilateral relations, regional connectivity, economic cooperation, and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The statement said both sides reiterated their resolve to deepen Pakistan-Iran ties and expand collaboration across various sectors while emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation.
Earlier, President Pezeshkian arrived at the Prime Minister’s House, where he was accorded a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the armed forces. A formal reception ceremony was held in his honour, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the visiting dignitary.
During the ceremony, the two leaders exchanged warm greetings before the Iranian president inspected the guard of honour. President Pezeshkian also planted a sapling on the lawns of the Prime Minister’s House as a symbolic gesture of friendship between the two neighbouring countries.
President Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad earlier in the day accompanied by a high-level delegation. He was received at Nur Khan Airbase by President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic engagement and cooperation between Pakistan and Iran on bilateral, regional and economic issues.
