Tehran, July 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, at the invitation of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, attended the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was martyred on February 28, 2026, during attacks on Iran.
According to a Prime Minister’s Office news release, the prime minister led a high-level Pakistani delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other senior government officials.
On the solemn occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Supreme Leader, recalling his enduring contributions to Islam and his decades-long leadership of the Iranian nation with wisdom, vision and sagacity.
The prime minister expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the brotherly people of Iran during their time of national mourning. He also prayed to Allah Almighty to grant eternal peace and forgiveness to the departed leader.
Following the funeral ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed Tehran for Istanbul to begin his official visit to Türkiye.
A separate parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, along with members of parliament and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also attended the funeral ceremony in Tehran.
