Rabat, July 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United Kingdom and Morocco have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the field of military cooperation, with both sides emphasizing the importance of enhanced coordination to address regional security challenges.
Morocco’s Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration Abdeltif Loudyi received Edward Ahlgren, Vice Admiral and the United Kingdom’s Senior Military Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa, in Rabat.
The meeting, held under the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, provided an opportunity for both officials to review the progress of bilateral defense cooperation and reaffirm their shared commitment to expanding military ties.
During the discussions, the two sides reviewed ongoing cooperation initiatives, including military training programs and efforts aimed at improving coordination and interoperability between the armed forces of both countries.
Abdeltif Loudyi highlighted Morocco’s approach and initiatives focused on promoting regional peace, stability and security, stressing the country’s continued role in addressing emerging challenges in the region.
Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren praised King Mohammed VI’s leadership, describing Morocco as an important partner in promoting peace and stability, particularly across the Middle East and North Africa region.
The meeting reflected the strong momentum in Morocco-UK defense relations, which have been reinforced through regular exchanges of visits between military and government officials, as well as joint exercises designed to strengthen operational cooperation.
The two countries have continued efforts to enhance troop interoperability and expand joint military activities, including the Jbel Sahara military exercises held in October 2025. The drills, conducted by Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and the British Army in the Ramram military zone near Marrakech, demonstrated the depth of defense cooperation between the two nations.
Morocco has also maintained extensive military cooperation with other international partners, including the United States and France, through joint training exercises and security initiatives.
The country hosts African Lion, the largest annual multinational military exercise on the African continent, conducted in partnership with the United States, while also participating in various bilateral and multilateral defense activities aimed at enhancing regional security cooperation.
The latest meeting between Moroccan and British officials reaffirmed the shared determination of both countries to deepen their strategic partnership and continue working together to promote peace and stability.
