Islamabad, August 13, 2026 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited Norwegian companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector and called for enhanced bilateral trade between Pakistan and Norway.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide at the Prime Minister House. He welcomed the visiting dignitary and expressed satisfaction over the warm and cordial relations between Pakistan and Norway, according to a Prime Minister’s Office news release.
Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated Norway’s bilateral cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in education, skilled labour, climate resilience and technology. He reiterated Pakistan’s strong desire to further expand trade and economic relations with Norway.
During discussions on regional and global developments, the prime minister appreciated Norway’s principled position in support of Palestine and thanked the country for its consistent support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace in the Gulf.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and conveyed the good wishes of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. He acknowledged Pakistan’s important role in regional peace efforts and reaffirmed Norway’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors.
The Norwegian foreign minister also appreciated the positive contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Norway to bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The discussions reflected the two countries’ shared interest in expanding economic cooperation, increasing bilateral trade and strengthening collaboration in energy, technology, education, climate resilience and human resource development.
