PM Shehbaz Welcomes Trump’s Support for Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Türkiye Makkah Defence Pact

Islamabad, August 17, 2026 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed and appreciated US President Donald Trump’s supportive remarks regarding the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Pact among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

In a post on his X account, the Prime Minister said he highly valued President Trump’s words of support for the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Pact.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan, together with its brotherly country Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Türkiye, would continue to play a constructive role in ensuring the defence and security of their respective countries as well as the wider region.

The Prime Minister also appreciated President Trump’s “bold and decisive” leadership, saying it had helped avert a nuclear catastrophe in South Asia and save millions of lives during the conflict between Pakistan and India in May last year.

He stressed that sustainable peace was the most fundamental requirement for ensuring a bright and prosperous future for the people.

Earlier, President Donald Trump, in a statement, expressed his satisfaction over the recent signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Pact by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.

President Trump said the agreement reflected how the Middle East was coming together and would enable countries to defend themselves more effectively.

He congratulated the leadership of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the agreement as “a big, bold and important first step.”
