Baku, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama during her working visit to Serbia.
The meeting focused on the current state of Azerbaijan-Ghana relations and prospects for further developing bilateral cooperation.
Gafarova reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s interest in strengthening ties with Ghana and highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation across various sectors.
The sides also discussed diplomatic relations and international cooperation between the two countries. They positively assessed Azerbaijan-Ghana cooperation and joint activities within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and other international organizations, emphasizing the importance of enhancing mutual support and coordination on international platforms.
The Milli Majlis Speaker highlighted Azerbaijan’s efforts during its four-year chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, including initiatives advanced by the country and achievements recorded during the period.
Addressing the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, Gafarova noted the platform’s contribution to strengthening ties among parliaments of NAM member states and facilitating the exchange of experience.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
President Mahama said Ghana attaches great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan. He emphasized that expanded inter-parliamentary contacts, reciprocal visits and cooperation in various fields could contribute significantly to advancing bilateral ties.
The sides also highlighted positive examples of humanitarian cooperation, including the participation of Ghanaian students in Azerbaijan’s scholarship programmes and the attendance of Ghanaian diplomats at training sessions and courses at ADA University.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
