Brussels, October 25, 2026 – The Europe Today: Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung has met with Benjamin Pestieau, Deputy General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB), to discuss strengthening political ties, enhancing bilateral cooperation and promoting coordination on international issues.

The meeting took place in Brussels on October 24 during the official visit to Belgium by Tô Lâm, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee and President of Việt Nam.

During the meeting, Trung conveyed Tô Lâm’s greetings to the PTB leadership and congratulated the party on its positive results and growing standing in the 2024 elections.

He expressed appreciation for the valuable support extended by generations of PTB members to Việt Nam during its struggle for national independence and its subsequent development. Trung reaffirmed that the CPV attached great importance to its traditional friendship and solidarity with the Belgian party.

Briefing Pestieau on Việt Nam’s current situation, Trung highlighted the country’s achievements after four decades of Đổi Mới (Renewal), its socialist-oriented market economy and its strategic development objectives for 2030 and 2045.

He emphasised the importance of international cooperation in achieving these goals, noting that Việt Nam sought to deepen mutual understanding and expand cooperation with political parties across Europe, including the PTB.

The Vietnamese foreign minister proposed increasing exchanges of delegations, sharing theoretical knowledge and practical experience in party building, and strengthening coordination at multilateral forums, including the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP).

Trung also called on the PTB to use its influence within Belgium’s political system and across Europe to promote stronger cooperation between Việt Nam and Belgium, as well as between Việt Nam and the European Union.

For his part, Pestieau welcomed Tô Lâm’s visit to Belgium and congratulated the CPV on the success of its 14th National Congress. He also commended Việt Nam’s achievements in enhancing its international standing.

Pestieau reaffirmed the PTB’s willingness to strengthen relations with the CPV and contribute positively to Việt Nam–Belgium ties. He expressed interest in promoting dialogue and coordination with political parties, including the CPV, to explore solutions that advance peace, cooperation and development in their respective regions and globally.

Both sides agreed to preserve their traditional solidarity and deepen dialogue and coordination at international gatherings involving communist and workers’ parties, as well as left-wing and progressive movements worldwide.

They emphasised that closer engagement would contribute to promoting peace, justice, social progress and sustainable development, while reinforcing cooperation between their respective political parties and countries.
