US Announces New Sanctions Against Cuba, Targets Economic Sectors and Military Support Networks

Cuba

Washington, November 6, 2026, The Europe Today: The United States has announced a new package of sanctions against Cuba, targeting individuals, organisations and business networks allegedly linked to the Cuban government’s military support system and financial activities.

According to the US Department of State, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the measures on November 5, targeting eight entities and two individuals, alongside five vessels identified as blocked property.

The sanctions target several areas, including Cuban business elites, a crude oil shipping network, state-owned import and technical-support organisations, and China-based suppliers allegedly providing equipment and support to Cuba’s military forces.

Rubio said the measures were intended to restrict financial and logistical networks that Washington alleges support the Cuban government’s military establishment and enable individuals associated with the leadership to benefit from opaque offshore business arrangements.

In a further step, the US Department of the Treasury issued a determination authorising the imposition of economic sanctions on foreign individuals and entities operating or having operated in Cuba’s electronics, manufacturing, marine and technology sectors.

The latest measures have been introduced under Executive Order 14404, issued by US President Donald Trump on May 1, 2026, concerning individuals and entities Washington considers responsible for repression in Cuba and threats to US national security and foreign policy.

The US administration maintains that the sanctions are aimed at restricting resources allegedly used to support Cuba’s military and security apparatus, while holding accountable individuals and organisations involved in related financial and commercial activities.

The announcement marks a further expansion of Washington’s economic pressure on Havana amid continuing tensions between the two countries.
