Türkiye Monitors Aftermath of Fatal Fire in Germany

Ankara, September 17, 2024 — The Europe Today: Türkiye is actively monitoring the aftermath of a devastating fire in Germany that claimed the lives of two Turkish citizens over the weekend. The Turkish Foreign Ministry has announced that the Consulate General in Berlin has conducted inspections at the site of the fire and is closely following developments. The ministry has also confirmed that local authorities have launched an investigation into the blaze.

The tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in Eberswalde, a town near Berlin, where a fire broke out at a three-story building. The blaze, which originated in a shop on the building’s ground floor, resulted in the death of a Turkish mother and her five-year-old son. At least six other individuals were injured, with four reported to be in serious condition, according to fire department officials.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Police spokesman Roland Kamenz stated that the investigation is ongoing and is considering all possible causes, including arson or a technical defect. The presence of a kebab shop on the building’s ground floor has been noted, but no definitive conclusions have been reached.

This incident has raised concerns due to previous arson attacks targeting the residences of Turkish immigrant families in Germany. The Turkish government remains vigilant and committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the affected families receive support during this difficult time.
