Moscow, October 3, 2024 – The Europe Today: Russian forces have fully captured the town of Ugledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Ukrainian forces, who had controlled the town since 2014, were reportedly forced into a strategic withdrawal after heavy losses.
The Defense Ministry announced on Thursday that the town, which had been a key strategic position, was liberated following decisive operations by the “East” group of Russian forces. Video footage showing Russian troops raising a flag over Ugledar’s administration building appeared on social media, marking the town’s fall.
Despite efforts by Ukrainian forces to maintain control, reports suggest their 72nd Brigade suffered significant casualties after being encircled and cut off from supply lines. Russian military advances in recent weeks had collapsed the Ukrainian front north of Kurakhovo, further weakening their defense of Ugledar.
