Islamabad, October 17, 2024 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Mr. Zhang Ming, to Islamabad earlier today, on the occasion of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled Mr. Zhang Ming’s previous visit to Pakistan in July 2022, and expressed his appreciation for the SCO Secretariat’s support in organizing the SCO CHG meeting in Islamabad. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the SCO Charter, assuring the Secretary-General that Pakistan would continue to actively contribute to the organization’s development priorities for the benefit of all member states and the wider region.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with SCO member states to enhance the effectiveness and strength of the organization, underscoring the importance of collective efforts to address regional challenges.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his gratitude to Mr. Zhang Ming for his outstanding service as the outgoing Secretary-General of the SCO, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
In response, Mr. Zhang Ming congratulated Prime Minister Sharif on the successful organization of the SCO CHG meeting and its positive outcomes. He praised Pakistan’s constructive role and contributions to the SCO’s initiatives across various domains and commended Pakistan’s leadership as the Chair of the SCO CHG meeting.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between Pakistan and the SCO, reflecting shared aspirations for regional cooperation and development.
