PM Chính Strengthens Ties with Vietnamese Community in Yunnan

Yunnan, November 6, 2024 – The Europe Today:  Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính met with representatives from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Kunming and members of the Vietnamese community in China’s Yunnan Province on Tuesday. The meeting took place during his visit to China to attend multiple regional summits, including the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, the 10th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, and the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Việt Nam Cooperation Summit.

Highlighting the strategic connection between Yunnan and the Vietnamese provinces of Lào Cai, Điện Biên, Lai Châu, and Hà Giang, Prime Minister Chính underscored their vital role in advancing the Việt Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. He emphasized the significance of the “camaraderie plus brotherhood” bond between the two nations, describing the deepening Việt Nam-China community as a strategic priority.

During the meeting, Chính encouraged the Vietnamese community in Yunnan, numbering about 4,000, to continue fostering strong Việt Nam-China relations, respect the host country’s laws, and actively support development efforts in both nations. He also praised the community’s solidarity, noting their recent contribution of $5,000 in support of flood victims in Việt Nam.

Prime Minister Chính extended gratitude to the Chinese Party, State, and people for their support of the Vietnamese community in Yunnan, as well as for their role in promoting bilateral ties. He also briefed the overseas Vietnamese on recent developments in Việt Nam, urging them to uphold Vietnamese culture and contribute to the prosperity of both countries.

Later, the Prime Minister attended a Vietnamese culture-tourism festival in Kunming, organized in celebration of the upcoming 75th anniversary of Việt Nam-China diplomatic relations and the “Year of Việt Nam-China Humanistic Exchange” in 2025. At the festival, he visited a photo exhibition showcasing Việt Nam’s cultural heritage and tourism, and attended a joint art program by Vietnamese and Chinese artists, celebrating the enduring solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
