Jakarta, February 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has urged Indonesian media and journalists to uphold national interests while reporting the truth for the people, particularly as the nation prepares to celebrate its 2025 National Press Day on February 9.
In his National Press Day address, published by the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (Feb 9), President Prabowo emphasized the importance of journalistic integrity and independence from vested interests.
“The Indonesian press must always prioritize the interest of the Indonesian nation and people. They must remain vigilant to attempts to control the thoughts and opinions of the people by massive capital outpours,” the president stated.
Prabowo noted the increasing influence of individuals with substantial financial resources and media control who may seek to sway public opinion with potentially misleading or inaccurate narratives. He stressed that journalists play a crucial role in safeguarding the truth amid global uncertainties.
The president underscored the press’ long-standing contributions to Indonesia, particularly in documenting historical events and supporting the democratic process for over eight decades. He commended Indonesian journalists for their dedication in disseminating accurate information despite the complexities of the modern media landscape.
“The Indonesian press has become an important pillar for our democracy, a voice of truth, and a source of accurate information for the Indonesian people,” Prabowo affirmed.
“I laud the hard work of our journalists and media colleagues who continue to carry out their work with high dedication despite increasingly complex challenges,” he added.
Indonesia’s National Press Day is observed annually on February 9, marking the anniversary of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), founded in 1946. The commemorative day was formally established by Presidential Decision No. 5 of 1985, recognizing the Indonesian press’ historical role and contributions to national development in line with Pancasila values.
