Astana, March 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed an Italian delegation to the Kazakh capital, emphasizing the strong and growing bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Italy. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss key areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and cultural cooperation.
“I have fond memories of my visit to Italy, which turned out to be extremely successful thanks to your hospitality and willingness to create all the conditions for productive negotiations,” President Tokayev stated. “The two states enjoy very close cooperation in various fields. Many Italian companies operate in our market, and there is rapid growth. Cultural and humanitarian ties are also developing dynamically. Therefore, I believe that very strong relations have been established between our countries.”
Expanding Economic and Trade Cooperation
Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations. He praised the strength of bilateral relations and noted significant potential for expanding the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Italy.
“We have truly excellent relations in all areas – political, economic, trade, and cultural,” President Mattarella said.
During the talks, both leaders reviewed prospects for enhancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation. President Tokayev noted that Italy ranks third among Kazakhstan’s largest trading partners and is among the top five largest investors in the Kazakh economy. In 2023, bilateral trade turnover reached approximately $20 billion. Additionally, around 250 Italian companies are active in Kazakhstan, contributing to the development of the oil and gas sector, renewable energy, engineering, and agriculture.
Global Issues and Future Cooperation
Beyond economic matters, the two heads of state also exchanged views on pressing global issues, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening international cooperation.
President Mattarella’s visit to Astana marks a continuation of the strong diplomatic engagement between Kazakhstan and Italy, with both sides expressing optimism for further deepening their partnership in the years ahead.
