Chinese Foreign Minister Praises Cuba’s Sovereignty and Calls for Deeper Bilateral Cooperation

Rio de Janeiro, April 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Cuba’s steadfast defense of its national sovereignty and resistance to external pressure during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.

Highlighting the long-standing friendship between the two nations, Wang underscored that China and Cuba are “good comrades and partners,” united by shared principles and mutual respect. He reaffirmed China’s continued support for Cuba in opposing foreign interference and economic blockades.

“China will remain firm in supporting Cuba’s legitimate struggles to safeguard its sovereignty, dignity, and developmental rights,” Wang stated. He also emphasized Beijing’s readiness to deepen cooperation across all sectors to enhance Cuba’s capacity for independent development.

For his part, Rodríguez praised the enduring and profound friendship between Cuba and China. He noted that despite evolving global dynamics, both countries have consistently upheld mutual support and advanced together on the path of socialism.

Rodríguez expressed gratitude for China’s enduring trust and assistance, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and social development. He conveyed Cuba’s commitment to enhancing high-level exchanges, deepening solidarity and collaboration, and seeking continued Chinese support in its national development and revitalization efforts.

The meeting reaffirmed the strategic nature of the China-Cuba relationship and underscored both countries’ shared commitment to sovereignty, socialist ideals, and South-South cooperation.
