Islamabad, May 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: On May 29, 2025, Mr. Declan Johnston, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Mohd Syafik Firdaus, Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission of Malaysia.
During the meeting, Mr. Johnston conveyed the Government of Ireland’s intention to establish a permanent diplomatic mission in Islamabad, signaling Ireland’s commitment to strengthening its presence and engagement in Pakistan. He also presented an overview of the current dynamics and future prospects of Ireland–Pakistan bilateral relations, highlighting key areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
In response, Mr. Syafik welcomed Ireland’s initiative and shared Malaysia’s perspectives on the proposed establishment of an Irish embassy in Islamabad. He affirmed Malaysia’s support for diplomatic efforts that contribute to regional connectivity and enhanced partnerships, stressing the importance of continued collaboration among all stakeholders.
Mr. Syafik also briefed Mr. Johnston on the state of Malaysia–Pakistan relations, noting the depth of the longstanding partnership and identifying potential areas for expanded cooperation, particularly in trade, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both parties used the occasion to exchange views on regional developments, underscoring the shared belief in the importance of dialogue, stability, and constructive engagement as key drivers of peace and prosperity in the region.
