St. Petersburg, June 21, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia’s steadfast commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy during his address at the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia on Friday, underscoring the nation’s dedication to global peace, friendship, and multilateral cooperation.
“Indonesia has always been non-aligned. We respect all nations. Our foreign policy is simple: one thousand friends are too few, but one enemy is too many,” President Prabowo stated during his speech, which emphasized Indonesia’s desire to maintain cordial relations with all countries regardless of geopolitical divisions.
The President dismissed notions that global affairs are increasingly dictated by the emergence of rigid power blocs. He also rejected speculation surrounding his attendance at SPIEF in light of his absence from the G7 Summit held in Canada from June 15–17, 2025.
Urging all parties not to misinterpret his presence at the Russian economic forum, President Prabowo clarified that Indonesia had accepted the SPIEF invitation well in advance and that his participation was a fulfillment of an earlier commitment.
“I had already committed to attending this forum before receiving the invitation to the G7 Summit. That is the only reason [why I did not attend the summit],” he explained.
Amid rising global geopolitical tensions, President Prabowo called for strengthened cooperation that transcends bloc boundaries, encouraging nations to come together for cross-border humanitarian efforts and mutual advancement.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s role as a true partner for peace, stability, and shared prosperity, stating, “We want to be friends with everyone. Only through friendship and collaboration can we achieve prosperity together.”
President Prabowo’s official visit to St. Petersburg, which took place from June 18 to 20, also included a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, followed by his participation in SPIEF on Friday.
