Jakarta, August 04, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and strengthening ASEAN cooperation during high-level talks at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, emphasizing the shared responsibility of both nations in promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
Speaking during a joint press statement, President Prabowo highlighted the strategic importance of Indonesia–Thailand relations, noting that both countries are founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and among the region’s largest economies.
“Our relationship greatly influences the situation in Southeast Asia,” President Prabowo said, underscoring the significant role both nations play in shaping regional developments.
The Indonesian leader described Prime Minister Anutin’s visit as particularly significant, pointing out that it was the first official visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years. He noted that the meeting marked the second Leaders’ Consultation between the two countries since they elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership last year.
According to President Prabowo, the growing strategic partnership reflects the shared vision of both countries to expand cooperation and build a stronger future-oriented relationship.
During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, with particular focus on strengthening ASEAN’s role amid increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
President Prabowo stressed that, as founding members of ASEAN, Indonesia and Thailand have a shared responsibility to safeguard regional peace, security, and stability while fostering inclusive economic growth and shared prosperity.
He added that both governments would continue to promote practical cooperation under their strategic partnership to address common challenges, enhance regional resilience, and deliver tangible benefits for the people of both nations.
Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral ties, President Prabowo said Indonesia and Thailand would continue working closely to ensure that their strategic partnership contributes to sustainable development, stronger regional cooperation, and greater prosperity across Southeast Asia.
