Malaysia and France Reaffirm Commitment to Gaza Ceasefire and Two-State Solution

Paris, July 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Malaysia and France have jointly reiterated their call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, along with the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and the release of hostages, as Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim paid an official visit to French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.

Speaking alongside Prime Minister Anwar, President Macron emphasized the urgent need for a political resolution to the ongoing conflict, reiterating support for a two-state solution that would ensure lasting peace and regional stability.

“More than ever, we are calling for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid, which remains desperately needed in Gaza,” President Macron said in remarks delivered in French. “A lasting solution cannot be achieved without reopening a clear political perspective based on the two-state solution — where two states live side by side in peace and security — enabling the creation of a Palestinian state and full regional integration of Israel.”

Macron commended ongoing mediation efforts and urged the swift finalization of the current ceasefire proposal. He also stressed that, in light of the dire humanitarian situation, it is Israel’s responsibility to ensure access to humanitarian assistance for the civilian population.

Addressing broader regional concerns, the French president said France continues to uphold international law, pointing to the lack of legal justification for recent retaliatory strikes on Iran. He urged Tehran to reaffirm its commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to conclude an agreement that ends uranium enrichment while enabling peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, standing alongside President Macron, expressed strong support for France’s efforts to de-escalate the Gaza conflict.

“Of course, we have condemned the continued bombings and atrocities inflicted upon civilians, women, and children. It is regrettable that the international community has not been able to resolve this. Your initiative, President Macron, is supported by us,” Anwar stated.

On the matter of nuclear energy, Prime Minister Anwar acknowledged the importance of transparency and peaceful intent, emphasizing the necessity of avoiding double standards.

“Nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear power must not be viewed selectively,” he said. “Malaysia remains committed to the two-state solution. We must impress upon Iran to fulfill its commitments for peaceful use and allow for appropriate inspection. We will follow through, and you can be assured of Malaysia’s cooperation.”

Following the joint press conference, the two leaders held an official working dinner and continued discussions in a private tête-à-tête. Prime Minister Anwar then departed Paris for Rio de Janeiro, marking the final leg of his official visit to three global cities.
