PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Türkiye

Islamabad, July 10, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further deepen cooperation with Türkiye across a broad spectrum of fields, including trade, investment, technology, and defense, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a high-level meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yasar Güler, who are currently visiting Islamabad.

Longstanding Fraternal Ties

Highlighting the deep-rooted and enduring nature of Pakistan–Türkiye relations, Prime Minister Sharif underscored the shared history, cultural affinity, and mutual respect that have long formed the foundation of the two nations’ fraternal ties.

He was joined by key members of the Pakistani leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik, and other senior officials.

Toward a Strategic Partnership

Recalling his recent engagements with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, including their latest meeting on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to transform bilateral ties into a full-fledged strategic partnership.

Sharif expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Türkiye relations and welcomed the Joint Commission Meeting, co-chaired by Foreign Ministers Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan, as an important step toward advancing the bilateral agenda.

Mutual Support and Regional Coordination

Reiterating Pakistan and Türkiye’s mutual commitment to supporting each other’s core national interests, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need for closer coordination and consultation in view of the evolving regional and global environment.

He also conveyed his deepest gratitude to the people and leadership of Türkiye for their steadfast and principled support to Pakistan during times of regional tension, including recent hostilities with India.

Economic Cooperation and Investment Opportunities

Stressing the need to enhance bilateral trade, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the mutually agreed trade target of US$5 billion. He highlighted Islamabad’s investor-friendly policies and invited Turkish companies to expand their operations and investments in Pakistan’s priority sectors.

He also encouraged Türkiye to share its technical expertise and development experience to assist Pakistan in implementing structural reforms, accelerating economic growth, and supporting national development initiatives.

The visit of the Turkish ministers and the high-level engagements are expected to further consolidate the strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye, reinforcing their shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and regional stability.
