Cuba

Hanoi, September 03, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Tuesday held talks with visiting First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who is in Vietnam for a state visit and to attend celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

Welcoming the Cuban leader, PM Chính noted that the visit coincides with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba, underscoring the fraternal ties, comradeship and solidarity consistently extended by the Cuban Party, State, and people to Vietnam. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to treasuring and preserving its special friendship with Cuba, describing it as a model in international relations nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of both countries.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Cuba’s support during Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and in its current nation-building efforts. He also praised the outcomes of Díaz-Canel Bermúdez’s talks with Party General Secretary Tô Lâm and his meeting with State President Lương Cường, expressing confidence that Cuba will overcome its challenges under the leadership of the CPC.

For his part, President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated Vietnam on its National Day and recalled his earlier visits in 2013 and 2018. He lauded Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and foreign policy successes, highlighting the importance of frequent high-level exchanges in further strengthening the unique bilateral ties. He conveyed Cuba’s desire to deepen friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, particularly through experience-sharing in socio-economic development, while expressing gratitude for Vietnam’s continued support amid the difficult international environment.

Both sides agreed to step up practical cooperation, especially in agriculture, energy, and biotechnology, building on agreements reached during Party General Secretary Tô Lâm’s 2024 visit to Cuba. They pledged to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral mechanisms, including the Vietnam–Cuba Intergovernmental Committee, political consultations, and defence and security dialogues, while promoting greater involvement of enterprises from both nations.

The leaders further agreed to increase exchanges at ministerial, sectoral, local, and business levels, expand cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges during the upcoming “Vietnam–Cuba Friendship Year 2025,” and strengthen coordination at multilateral forums. They stressed the importance of raising awareness among younger generations about the loyal and exemplary relationship between the two countries.

Concluding the meeting, PM Chính extended warm regards to Revolutionary Leader Raul Castro and other senior Cuban leaders, and invited Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to pay an official visit to Vietnam at a mutually convenient time.
