Morocco U-20s Top “Group of Death” After Victory Over Brazil

Morocco

Rabat, October 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Morocco’s under-20 football team have delivered a sensational performance at the ongoing tournament, securing top spot in Group C after just two matches and guaranteeing progression to the knockout stages.

The Atlas Lions stunned Brazil with a 2-1 victory, while Spain and Mexico shared a 2-2 draw. The results leave Morocco with six points and a four-point lead over Mexico, ensuring they will finish first in the so-called “group of death” regardless of the outcome of their final group match against Mexico on Saturday.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi praised his squad for their resilience and focus. “It was a tough game against Brazil, but the players showed great spirit. Winning six points from two games reflects everyone’s hard work,” he said.

Players also highlighted the unity and determination within the team. Forward Fouad Zahouani said, “We fight together on the pitch and give everything for our families and fans.” Midfielder Othmane Maamma added, “We are proud of this win and hope Moroccans are proud too. We want to keep this determination and go far in the tournament.”

By topping Group C, Morocco will face one of the third-placed teams from Groups 1, 2, or 6 in the Round of 16, scheduled for Friday, October 10. The final group-stage matches will determine which sides will join the Atlas Lions in advancing from the group.
