Paris, January 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: France has announced plans to phase out American videoconferencing services such as Teams and Zoom by 2027, replacing them with a homegrown platform named Visio, media reports said.
Minister Delegate for the Civil Service, David Amiel, told La Tribune Dimanche that the move aims to reduce France’s dependence on foreign software and ensure the security of official communications. “We’ve become dependent on programs like Teams or Zoom. We need to overcome this harmful habit at the national level to ensure the security of our negotiations under any circumstances. Therefore, by 2027, we will implement the videoconferencing solution Visio across all French administrations,” Amiel said.
Developed entirely in France by the Interministerial Digital Intelligence Unit (DINUM), Visio is expected to save the government millions of euros otherwise spent on renewing agreements with foreign software providers.
The Minister Delegate added that approximately 40,000 users have already tested the service. He also highlighted that Visio features an advanced algorithm capable of generating prompt text transcripts of conversations, enhancing administrative efficiency and security.
