Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Claim 108 Lives in Kenya, Thousands Displaced

Kenya

Nairobo, March 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Weeks of relentless heavy rains and flash flooding have claimed at least 108 lives across Kenya, according to the National Police Service, which released an updated death toll on Saturday.

The devastating floods, which began on the evening of March 6, have caused widespread destruction throughout the East African nation. Authorities and media reports indicate that fast-moving floodwaters have swept away dozens of vehicles, disrupted air travel, and severely damaged power infrastructure.

The disaster has also forced the displacement of more than 2,700 families nationwide, with emergency response efforts underway to assist affected communities.

Although rainfall intensity has eased in some regions, officials have warned that the danger is far from over. The police cautioned that the continued overflow of drainage systems and saturated ground conditions pose an ongoing risk of further flooding.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories as recovery and relief operations continue.
