Turkmenistan, United States Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Education, Culture and Public Diplomacy

Ashgabat, June 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including education, culture, public diplomacy, and economic development, during talks held in Ashgabat on Monday.

According to Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Sarah Rogers, who arrived in the Turkmen capital on a working visit.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the positive momentum and productive nature of Turkmen-U.S. cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. They underscored the importance of contacts at high and top levels as a key driver of the continued development of bilateral relations.

The discussions focused on cooperation in education, science, culture, and the digitalization of key sectors of the economy. The two sides noted that Turkmenistan is currently participating in more than 15 U.S. educational programs under existing agreements, while partnerships have also been established between specialized higher education institutions in both countries.

In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the officials reviewed opportunities for implementing joint projects and highlighted the successful operation of the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation programme, which has been active in Turkmenistan for the past 25 years.

The meeting also placed special emphasis on cooperation in media, public relations, and public diplomacy, including the expansion of professional exchanges, sharing of expertise, and the implementation of joint initiatives.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the C5+1 format.
