Turkmenistan, CTBTO Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament

Ashgabat, June 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held talks with Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Robert Floyd to discuss bilateral cooperation and key international issues related to disarmament, arms control and nuclear non-proliferation.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the CTBTO, with particular focus on strengthening international efforts aimed at promoting global peace and security.

Special attention was given to activities marking the 30th anniversary of the opening for signature of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). The participants highlighted the historic significance of the Treaty, describing it as one of the most important international instruments for reinforcing the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and advancing the objective of comprehensive disarmament.

The discussions also underscored the importance of enhanced international cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges and promoting sustainable development. In this regard, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its international obligations and supporting global initiatives aimed at strengthening confidence, peace and security.

The meeting included an exchange of views on expanding practical cooperation between Turkmenistan and the CTBTO, particularly in the areas of professional training for national specialists, participation in relevant programmes and the development of expert-level collaboration.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening constructive partnership and maintaining regular dialogue on issues of common concern, reflecting their shared commitment to advancing international peace, stability and nuclear non-proliferation objectives.
