Ashgabat, July 21, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Xiaojun Wang, on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing the country’s sustainable development agenda.
During the meeting, Minister Meredov congratulated Wang on her appointment and wished her success in further enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
The two sides reviewed the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN system, highlighting the strong partnership between the country and the international organization and reaffirming the importance of continued collaboration in priority areas of mutual interest.
Particular attention was given to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030, preparations for Turkmenistan’s Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the work of the Strategic Advisory Council “Turkmenistan–UN.”
The discussions also focused on developing new joint initiatives aligned with Turkmenistan’s national development priorities and the global sustainable development agenda. Both sides underscored the importance of promoting Turkmenistan’s international initiatives within the United Nations framework.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the need for the consistent implementation of the Awaza Political Declaration and the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034 as key components of international cooperation and sustainable development efforts.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides expressed confidence that the longstanding partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Nations would continue to deepen through constructive dialogue and expanded cooperation across a broad range of development priorities.
